Supervision

The IRTG will establish a thesis advisory committee (TAC) for each PhD student. The TAC will consist of the principal investigator and a colleague PI from another project within the CRC. Through biannual meetings, the TAC will ensure continuous feedback and expert evaluation of work in progress. The PhD student will, in a written report, summarize the essential topics of the TAC meeting, the points of criticism discussed and the recommendations given by the TAC. The report must be approved by the TAC and submitted to the IRTG coordinator for archiving. This ensures that milestones and checkpoints will be set and documented and strategic readjustments of the project discussed in due time whenever appropriate. In this way, the TAC guarantees high-quality coaching and support for all PhD students.

At the start, the IRTG will provide a comprehensive overview of the training opportunities and options available to new PhD students. They will then discuss with their thesis committee which compulsory training opportunities would be most suitable with respect to the requirements of the research project and their personal qualifications and skill level. Within the first six months, the PhD student must submit her/his personal training schedule for the first and second year to the IRTG.
