Elisabeth Meedt, MD, and Erik Thiele Orberg, MD, PhD, from the University of Regensburg (UR) and the University Hospital Regensburg (UKR) have been awarded the prestigious research prize of the German Association for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (DAG-HSZT) for their outstanding scientific work on the role of microbial metabolites in allogeneic stem cell transplantation.
The award-winning study, which was published in the journal Nature Cancer in 2024, sheds light on the influence of so-called immunomodulatory microbial metabolites (IMMs) on the treatment success of allogeneic stem cell transplants (allo-SSCT) - a key procedure in the treatment of haematological cancers.
